David de Gea Quintana is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for English club Manchester United and the Spain national team. He has been hailed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has been hailed as one of the youngest best goalkeepers in the world. He began his career aged 13 with Atletico Madrid and rose through the academy system at the club before making hos senior debut in 2009. After being made Atletico’s first choice goalkeeper, he helped the team win both the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010. He then joined Manchester united in 2011 foe $17.8 million, a British record for a goalkeeper. He is 192cm long, 76kg and belongs to Spain.
De Gea was the captain from the Spain under-21 national side that won the European championship in 2011 and 2013, and also competed in the 2012 Olympics. He played the world cup in year 2014 and has been tipped by many as the successor to Iker Casillas as Spain’s long-term goalkeeper.
He have contract with United until 2019, insists he is not thinking about a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Saved a spot kick from Leighton Baines and a stoppage time save from Bryan Oviedo ensured a United 2-1 win.
“When you save a penalty and in dying seconds you hold three magnificent saves, then you are great, because we won the game because of that,” said Louis van Gaal.
